Loved the article, Julep--and I'm so disappointed that my photo distracted you from what would have been interesting and illuminating commentary from you on this issue.
The first paragraph rings especially true...about how mothers compete and lord it over each other based on what they serve their kids. I was just on Facebook, where a mother (someone from Junyaleague, who Jenks knew from Transy, who has a 14-month-old son) said her kid was an adventurous eater and asked for food suggestions.
Well, you should have read the mothers coming out of the woodwork to brag about the stuff they fix for their kids. One actually used the term mirepoix. (I chimed in with my suggestions before I even read all that obnoxious b.s., but Mirepoix and her likes made me wish I hadn't).
Speaking of interesting snacks, Mr. Twinkle is sitting here eating a banana with peanut butter and chocolate chips on it. I asked him if he's pregnant.
When the Big D was staying with me, I sent him to school with peanut butter filled pretzels and Gatorade. He was 11, right? I got a note about nutrition. I sent him the next day with Mountain Dew and Krispy Kreme. I paying you to teach him, lady. He's far from obese.~Dibbs
